New website

Just in time for Christmas, we’ve got a new website. It should make it easier for riders to find information about competitions and for new riders to find out about mountainboarding in their area and sign-up for the new Free Introductory Membership Offer. Check it out at www.atbauk.org

Planning ahead

The first committee meeting after the AGM is always a big one. Lots to get through on the agenda and lots of planning for next season, boring but necessary stuff like budgets and more fun stuff like downhill comps and new stickers.

Committee meetings always generate a long list of things to do. Luckily we’ve got a long list of people to do it; Regional representatives, instructors, previous committee members (thanks for coming Beiran), centre managers, friends and family, and lots of riders who volunteer their help. We spent quite a bit of time talking about the mountainboarding community and we’re glad that it is such a strong community.

International Series 2012 announced!!!

The Centres and dates of the International Series 2012 are:

Round 1 – Ironsides - 19th & 20th May
Round 2 – Out To Grass - 16th & 17th June
Round 3 – Haredown – 14th & 15th July
Round 4 – Hales Superbole - 25th & 26th August

And were already looking forward to a good season!

Going bigger than Renny Myles

Amid the buzz of a usual Saturday at BugsBoarding with the happy hollering of kids on grass sledges and having their first taste of mountainboarding some of the countries best young freestylers sat down to listen to Rhys explain how Round 3 of the BFC’s Cream Teas and Jam was going to work.

Even with the list of usual Pro freestlyers including Matt Brind, Joe Dickson, Sam Nicholas, James Wanklyn, and Renny Myles, it was clear that today was a going to be a day for showing what youthful energy and enthusiasm can produce with a mountainboard. These examples included long boardslides from Emlyn and Amon, 50-50 to 360-off from Scott, Michael repeatedly trying and then getting boardslides, and huge backside 180 from Ben.

With Rhys leading the way, all the riders moved from the jib section at Bugs over to the new features built for this Augusts Summers Sessions. Emlyn went at it, three-ing up the step-up into the quarter and putting down coordinated threes off the drop with Ben. Amon showed off his quick reaction by getting a boardslide down the white rail straight out of the quarter, Matt Humphrey tail tapped/5-0′d the blue rail, and Ben pulled out a super fast five. We also saw a crazy fast-plant from Sam Penny on the quarter and a very nice 270-in-270-out from Steve Cownie. Another section complete, the riders filled in their judging slips and moved over to the tables, giving the more traditional big air riders a chance to show their stuff.

Highlights from this section included an opening backflip from Renny Myles, Ben Wanklyn going huge over the biggest freestyle jumps in the country, and Sam Nicholas with back-to-back backflips. The slightly older and more well-known riders showed what you get from having spent years on a board but the real stars of the show were the youngers riders who definitely had a greater sense of fun and freedom about their riding. These are the freestlyers of the future and it’s a future full of potential and passion for being free with their style.

Cream Teas and Jam, International Mountainboard Film Festival and ATBA-UK AGM

The BFC, ATBJunkies, and the ATBA-UK have joined forces to bring you an awesome close to the season on the 8th of October at Bugsboarding.

We’ve crammed Round 3 of Cream Teas and Jam, the International Mountainboard Film Festival and the ATBA-UK AGM into one day of relaxed riding, chilled film making and even more chilled film watching on the big screen.
